Massage can provide you the space to relax and revitalise the body from the daily
stresses of life. Massage has many positive benefits including reducing muscular
tension, increasing the range of motion of joints, enables you to say goodbye to
your aches, pains and injuries and is an excellent source of stress management.
Clare is a highly skilled and experienced massage therapist who incorporates many
different styles and techniques, aiming to provide you with an individual treatment,
to optimise your physical wellbeing. Clare has a Diploma of Remedial Massage, as
well as a Degree in Human Movement Studies. She also worked as a massage therapist
with swimmers competing in the 2004 Olympic Time Trials.
Remedial Massage involves hands on treatment and prevention of musculo-skeletal
dysfunction. Treatment is aimed at prevention, rehabilitation, pain and injury management,
as well as maintenance. In the case of injury or soreness, remedial massage generally
focuses on the site of dysfunction and the immediate area around it, as well as
related fascia; in order to enable the body to repair the damaged muscle fibres.
A range of manual therapy techniques may be employed. Soft tissues are realigned
to optimise their performance and balance is restored to the skeleton, resulting
in better posture, movement and flexibility. Inflammation and scar tissue are also
reduced. If safe and appropriate, stretches are also suggested to compliment outcomes
of the treatment.
This is also referred to as Swedish Massage. Techniques used are designed to reduce
stress, increase blocked energy flow and generate a feeling of good health generally.
Relaxation massage helps to improve circulation, lymphatic flow, posture, stiff
joints, sleep, wellbeing and enhances a range of body functions. The soft flowing
movements ensure a blissful experience, which helps reduce the feeling of stress
and produces a calming effect on the body and mind.
Clare has post graduate training in pregnancy massage. Clare is very experienced
in working with pregnant women in all stages of pregnancy. Pregnancy massage relaxes
muscles, improves circulation and promotes the well being of mother and baby. It
also eases discomfort caused by postural changes, lower back pain and sciatica.
Clare was previously a doula using massage and acupressure to help women in labour
to be able to cope with their labour pain. She was approached by Sydney South West
Private Hospital in Liverpool to put together a ‘Natural Therapies for Labour’ class
as an adjunct to their antenatal classes. Clare taught ‘Natural Therapies for Labour’
at Sydney South West Private and also at Kareena Private Hospital at Miranda.
A very simple explanation of reflexology is that points on the hands, feet and ears
relate to all other parts of the body. Reflexology is a method of stimulating reflex
areas on the feet, hands, or ears that correspond to each and every gland, organ
and part of the body.
Clare has a Diploma of Reflexology and works to strengthen each and every part of
the body, particularly under functioning areas. Correct stimulation of reflex areas
relieves stress and tension, deeply relaxing the whole body from head to toe. This
therapeutic relaxation serves to normalise the body's functioning, effectively facilitating
the body's innate healing processes, revitalizing and enhancing your total health.
The History Of Reflexology
The idea behind reflexology is not new - in fact, it was practiced as early as 2330
B.C. by the Egyptian culture and also in a similar manner by the ancient Chinese.
More recently, reflexology was described in the form in which it is now known by
the late Eunice Ingham, an American lady, who based her method of treatment on work
called 'Zone Therapy' which had been described some years earlier in the 1920's
by an American, Dr. William Fitzgerald.
What Does A Reflexology Consultation Involve?
Some clients have reflexology only during their appointment time. In this case the
treatment starts with a foot bath, including using exfoliation of the feet and lower
legs. Other clients like to incorporate reflexology with other services such as
As the reflex areas of your feet, hands or ears are stimulated you may notice some
areas of sensitivity. These sensations result from sensitivity that frequently reflects
the presence of tension, or suboptimal function in the corresponding part of the
body. Clare is experienced in reducing pressure on the feet, hands or ears, in these
sensitive areas, so that you continue to have a deep sense of relaxation throughout
How Can Reflexology Help Me?
As the points on the feet, hands and ears are stimulated in massage like movements,
it causes a positive reaction to the corresponding parts of the body. Areas of the
body that are known to be a problem are focused upon to help relieve symptoms. For
example if a client has a problem with their eyes, the points on the second and
third toes will be focused upon. As well as helping specific problem areas, reflexology
also brings about a deep state of relaxation and is in fact sometimes used primarily
to simply relieve stress and tension and produce deep therapeutic relaxation.
Many health problems can be linked to nervous and physical tension. By reducing
stress and tension, reflexology improves blood and lymph circulation, strengthens
the functioning of the immune system, improves assimilation of nutrition and elimination
of toxins, and calms the nervous system. In these ways, reflexology facilitates
the body's natural healing processes and thereby enhances the body's health and
Reflexology relieves stress and tension and deeply relaxes people, independent of
their beliefs about it. Most people enjoy pleasant relaxed and/or energised feelings
after a reflexology session.
Clare uses only safe reflexology techniques. It very simply relaxes the body, which
allows it to function more effectively. The results can be amazing.
In Earcandling the non burning end of this special hollow candle is gently inserted
into the outer ear passage. Earcandles have a light suction action and the movement
of the flame creates a vibration of air in the Earcandle, which generates a massage-like
effect on the eardrum. This induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of
pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. Whilst this is being done Clare gives
a therapeutic and relaxing neck and head massage. The Earcandling is soothing and
helpful for earache and ear noise and helps to relieve pressure and pain. Treatment
may also cause freer nasal breathing. This 20 minute treatment brings about a wonderful
feeling of relaxation. It can be performed on its own, or in combination with any
